Synapse Media, Inc. is a company dedicated to providing quality training and education in sleep medicine and technology, with special emphasis on laboratory methodology and clinical polysomnography.
Synapse Media was founded in 1992 by German
Nino-Murcia, M.D. and Nic Butkov, RPSGT. Having worked together at the Stanford Sleep
Disorders Center in the early 1980's, Dr. Murcia and Nic Butkov developed a long-standing
friendship and professional relationship. The initial goal of the company was to produce a
series of training programs for sleep professionals, addressing all the fundamental
aspects of quality data collection, accurate signal processing and proper recording
maintenance.
The first two programs, Introduction to the Polysomnograph and Electrode Application were completed in 1993, followed by the All-Night Sleep Recording in 1994. Combined, these three programs provide an essential overview of basic sleep laboratory methodology and recording technique, reflecting the highest standards of practice in clinical polysomnography.
In 1996, Synapse Media published the Atlas of Clinical Polysomnography by Nic Butkov. The Atlas is a large, two-volume textbook, featuring multiple recording samples with comprehensive supporting text. Acclaimed by physicians and technologists worldwide, the Atlas offers the largest and most complete collection of normal and abnormal sleep recordings available today.
Based on its reputation for quality and adherence to established standards of practice, Synapse Media has become recognized as a vital resource to physicians, technologists, respiratory therapists, laboratory managers, and other health professionals seeking high-caliber training and education in sleep medicine and technology.
